About Us

A message from the Commodore

It is my pleasure to welcome all members of the Lexington Boat Club (LBC). I am Jeanne Etzel, Commodore of the Club for the 2026-2027 season. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support of our club during past seasons and look forward to another exciting season ahead.

Your past Boards have worked tirelessly to provide a wide selection of trips and activities for you, as members, to enjoy. That effort has materialized in expanded activities from day boat trips and cruises to include international land tours and new local entertainment activities. Keep an eye out for this season’s continued expansion of similar fun trips.

Your Board will continue to make it easier for you to attend our Club’s events. Past improvements included the establishment of a website for communication purposes, the deployment of Greenvelope, an automated event invite and reservation system, and the use of credit cards to pay for events. This year we plan to expand the use of credit cards to include payment of dues.

This year you will also notice an increase in our membership as the Board decided to invite all Wait List members, as of December 2026, to become members effective January 2027.

The Board is asking for your assistance. We are seeking volunteers for season long Board positions as well as single event implementation efforts. I volunteered for several events this past season and it was fun. I got to meet many members with fun stories to tell.

The LBC is your club …. we are here to provide the best trips and events for your club. I hope you all enjoy the upcoming season!!

Thank you all….

Jeanne Etzel, your Commodore

History of the Lexington Boat Club

The following history was taken from notes written by Rich Hill and Elner Dahl in January 2000.

In 1997, seven boaters went for a ride in Roger Duininck's new boat, and a week later former resident Doug Sloan approached a couple of the boaters about the idea of starting a boating and fishing club at Lexington. The idea was "you don't have to own a boat to belong" and three short years with a lot of help from a number of folks the Boat Club was born and became the place to be just behind golf and tennis.

Doug and Rich with Paul Wymer then started the club in 2000 with nearly 200 dues paying members.  The meetings were setup monthly for the first Tuesday of each month with cookies and refreshments.

Those who helped back them besides Elner, Rich, Doug, Roger and Paul were Stan Barton and George Markovich.  They still used private boats until the club grew so much that insurance became an issue, and it was decided to book trips with local boat companies.

The first ocean cruise was in the Caribbean booked for January 2002.  It was a one-week cruise, and four bus loads went.  Since then, nearly every year another big cruise is taken as well as short overnighters when available.

Today there are 300 members with a Waitlist.

Adding to the monthly trips there are four big yearly events here at the clubhouse.  The Welcome Back party every Fall, the Mix and Mingle party to welcome new members, the Commodore's Ball and the Bon Voyage Party.  The first Commodore Ball took place in 2002.  The Bon Voyage party was originally a beach party then changed into a pool party.
